We are delighted that our magnificent home has been featured on the history and architecture podcast Your Places or Mine, presented by author and publisher CLIVE ASLET, and the architectural editor of Country Life, JOHN GOODALL.
In their latest episode, hosts Clive and John explore the remarkable story behind Smith Square Hall, one of the capital’s most striking baroque landmarks.
Designed in the early 1700s by the architect Sir Thomas Archer, St John’s Smith Square became known for its dramatic architecture and distinctive towers.
Bombed during the Second World War and left roofless for decades, the church seemed destined to disappear. Instead, a determined campaign brought the building back to life as one of London’s most loved concert venues.
Today, that spirit of renewal continues with Doors Open, our ambitious capital project to improve access, enhance facilities, and ensure this extraordinary building can welcome even more audiences, artists, and communities in the years ahead.
