Biography

Growing up, I was always immersed in a range of musical styles, from Bhangra to Australian Aboriginal music, Devonshire folk, and ambient electronica. From a young age, music and rhythm were a huge part of my life; as a toddler, I used to boogie to the rhythm of the bread-maker!

I initially began playing piano around age six, and picked up percussion as a teenager after a failed attempt at the viola! The BBC Concert Orchestra ran a family day down in Cornwall, and this was where I first picked up percussion — it was amazing to be part of a huge ensemble, working creatively with Cornish and Devonshire folk music. Following this, I joined the local county wind band and ensembles, and regularly took part in music sessions at Plymouth Music Zone, an organisation I’m incredibly grateful for.

I moved to Birmingham in 2019 to study for my undergraduate and master’s degrees at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and am grateful to have studied in such a vibrant, musical city! Along the way, I have played and worked in a range of ensembles, orchestras, and interdisciplinary arts projects, as well as a music facilitator. Some of my favourite musical moments include playing with Sigur Rós, Chineke! Orchestra, and Jasdeep Singh Degun; La Bohème at Glyndebourne Opera House; playing in BBC radio sessions; and wonderful community music projects in Exeter with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. I love all kinds of music and am so excited to get stuck into an amazing breadth of music as part of Sinfonia Smith Square!

Outside of playing, I love hiking, foraging, and being outdoors, anywhere near the sea, and love to get lost in an album or two! I am also really interested in found sounds, and creating sound samples from the nature around me.
