String music shaped by memory, landscape, and legacy.

This programme, directed by Martyn Jackson, explores how composers return to earlier forms and idioms to create something distinctly their own.

Mendelssohn’s D major Quartet draws on Classical models while pushing their expressive limits. Puccini’s I Crisantemi, written in a single night, turns string texture into pure mourning. Caroline Shaw reimagines the baroque suite as a meditation on space and structure in Plan and Elevation, while Rautavaara and Kilar look to folk sources — Finnish and Polish — reworking them with rhythmic bite and bold economy. A concert about memory, material, and transformation.

In case of wet weather the concert will be at the Theatre in Piazza IV Novembre.
