Lewisham Choral Society make a welcome return to Smith Square following their highly successful performance of Handel’s Dixit Dominus last summer. This year’s concert showcases some of the very best of the modern choral repertoire: Aaron Copland’s exquisite setting of the biblical text In the Beginning, for mezzo-soprano and choir, Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, Eric Whitacre’s serene Sleep, Samuel Barber’s poignant song of love and loss To be Sung on the Water, rhythmic songs by minimalist composer Philip Glass, and a lively Fancy of Folksongs by Cecilia McDowall.

Lewisham Choral Society is one of London’s foremost community choirs. We perform regularly at major London venues, including a sell-out performance of Verdi’s Requiem at the Royal Festival Hall last year.
Our music director Dan Ludford-Thomas enjoys a busy schedule as a conductor, chorus master and singing teacher. He directs a wide variety of choirs and performs regularly in major concert venues across the country.
