A concert thanking NHS staff and volunteers while supporting an outstanding healthcare charity.

The renowned musicians Emily Davis, Karen Stephenson, and Sophia Rahman of the Woburn Piano Trio present two favourite piano trios, Beethoven Opus 1 No.1 and Mendelssohn Opus 49 No.1 in D minor, together with the UK premiere of ‘Tales From The 15th Floor’, a piece for cello and piano by British composer Michael Stimpson.

This three-movement work was inspired by Stimpson’s experience in Charing Cross Hospital when he was paralysed and lost his eyesight after contracting Guillain-Barré Syndrome. The long-lasting effects of the illness played a fundamental role in his musical career and left him with a profound admiration for the NHS, a feeling that was only deepened seeing the way health workers shouldered the burdens of the pandemic. Stimpson recognises the benefit Horatio’s Gardens brings to people experiencing paralysis and facing months in hospital. The charity’s beautiful gardens in the heart of NHS spinal centres, are places for patients and families to adjust and find hope – the charity’s arts programme is integral to patients’ care.

NHS staff and volunteers reduced price £5, wheelchair users and their carers free. All proceeds to Horatio’s Garden.
