Tonight’s jazz in the crypt launches an exciting new partnership between Sinfonia Smith Square and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, bringing the very finest next generation of jazz musicians to Smith Square. Come along for a thrilling night of live music showcasing the rising stars of the jazz scene in our intimate, atmospheric crypt.

 

Lior Solomons-Wise is a jazz pianist and award-winning composer and arranger born and raised in North London. Lior was awarded the Dankworth prize for Jazz Composition in 2023 for his piece ‘Mortar’, written for a septet. Performing highlights include, Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Jazz club Soho, 606 Club, the Vortex Jazz Club and the EFG Jazz Festival.​​ Lior is now a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied jazz and classical piano with Nikki Iles, Ivo Neame, Gareth Williams and Barry Green.

The trio will explore re-imaginations of classic jazz repertoire by composers like Billy Strayhorn as well as some of Lior’s originals which draw inspiration from the natural world.
