The return of Donald Trump to the White House will impact us all.
The first Republican presidential candidate to win the popular vote in 20 years, Trump will take office not only with a strong mandate but also with unified control of Congress and a 6-3 conservative majority on the Supreme Court. He will have free rein to enact his sweeping policy agenda, remake the federal government, and rewrite institutional norms. But if Trump’s return will have a profound impact on the United States, it may have an even bigger impact on the rest of the world.
On February 24, veteran BBC journalist and presenter Justin Webb comes to Intelligence Squared to discuss what we all need to know about the new Trump world order. Webb will explain how US foreign policy in the second Trump administration will be different from the first and almost certainly staffed with more ideologically aligned officials ready to implement Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda. Webb will use his deep understanding of US and global politics to discuss what Trump’s return will mean for Europe, whether he will really change US policy on the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and whether he is genuinely looking to start – and presumably win – a trade war with China.
