London Phoenix Orchestra’s season of ‘first symphonies’ continues with Brahms’s first contribution to the genre – written when the composer was well into his middle age and immediately dubbed ‘Beethoven’s Tenth’ by conductor Hans von Bülow. Smetana’s exuberant overture and Mozart’s final masterpiece complete the programme.
