Biography

I knew I wanted to be a musician from the age of eight, after watching a New Zealand Army Band concert at primary school. My eldest brother was a trumpeter, and I loved how playing the trumpet meant that you could always be heard! I threw myself into music at school by playing in concert bands and orchestras, singing in barbershop groups, and even writing and producing my own music.

After graduating from Cashmere High School, I decided to move to Wellington to study Music and Educational Psychology. It was here that my career really took off, and I was able to take on loads of performance work alongside my studies. I was a member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band for three years, performing the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto with the band in 2024. I played with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Wellington, and Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. I also took on some administrative orchestral work, and loved to play and compete with Wellington Brass Band.

From there, I decided that I wanted to pursue an international career. I was lucky enough to be awarded a scholarship, and also did some furious fundraising, to pursue a Master’s degree at the Royal College of Music in 2024.

The adjustment to London was massive, and it took a while to feel fully settled in the big city. But I absolutely love all of the opportunities that London has afforded me, and wouldn’t change it for the world. I got to live at Goodenough College, learn from and perform with some of the best brass musicians in the world, and travel to Sweden and perform at the Berlin Konzerthaus.

I absolutely believe in the power of music lessons, and my goal is to someday open my own teaching studio, with an emphasis on improving equitable access to music education.

Like most Kiwis, I love to spend time outdoors either running, hiking, or swimming. I’m an average tennis player and an even worse footballer, but have learnt how to appropriately spectate a football match whilst living here. Living in London has been fantastic for travel as well, and there are a bunch of countries I still hope to explore. I also love to read and write, will never say no to a coffee, and enjoy chatting to new people on public transport.
