Biography
I grew up in Aberdeen and started piano and flute lessons at around the age of 9. I immediately took to the flute in particular and even at a young age I loved to play duets and in small ensembles with my peers.
This continued through my teenage years and music quickly became my main focus. I loved my time spent in school Concert Band and the Youth Orchestra and Wind Band at my local music service. I took Scholarship lessons at the North East of Scotland Music School and upon deciding that I wished to pursue further studies in music, I moved to the Aberdeen City Music School for my final two years of school. During this time I played with the Grampian Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. I always looked forward to these orchestral courses and I have very fond memories of this time in which I met many close friends and had my first experiences of performing repertoire by composers such as Stravinsky, Debussy and Dvorak.
In 2017 I moved to Manchester to study at the Royal Northern College of Music, where I learned with Laura Jellicoe and Janet Richardson. I then completed my Master’s degree in Orchestral Artistry at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I had a wide range of opportunities here and studied with Gareth Davies, Ian Clarke, Philippa Davis, Sarah Newbold and Christopher Green.
Some personal highlights from the course include performing with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra in the Barbican Hall and working closely with members of the London Symphony Orchestra.
One of my proudest achievements during this time was gaining a place on the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Emerging Musicians Fellowship.
Since graduating in 2023, I have been finding the balance in freelance life and have enjoyed a range of performance opportunities while also maintaining a busy teaching schedule. I’ve always had an interest in pedagogy and I enjoy sharing my knowledge and love of music with my students.
In my spare time I love to read books, catch up with friends and drink coffee. I enjoy exploring the outdoors, travelling to new places and going to see live music and theatre!
