Biography

I was born in Blackpool and started the flute after being very stubborn and begging my primary school teacher to let me. He finally caved, and I began on a pink plastic one with a curved head joint, as I was too small. I played both cornet and flute but eventually had to decide which one to pursue. I was a part of Blackpool Music Service, which got me playing with others in the concert band and really developed me as a player. When I was 10, I started attending JRNCM, which then led to me auditioning for and joining youth orchestras such as NYO and NYOS. Those were my first experiences playing in an orchestra, and I knew then that it was what I wanted to do as a career. I was part of the Hallé Youth Orchestra for many years, which was my biggest inspiration to be an orchestral musician.

In 2021, I moved to London to begin my undergraduate degree at the Royal College of Music, from which I have just graduated. I studied with incredible teachers such as Gitte Marcusson, Emer McDonough, and Sue Thomas. Whilst in London, I was awarded a place on The Royal Ballet & Opera House Orchestral Scheme and became Principal Piccolo of the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra.

Alongside freelancing and working with incredible orchestras, I love to teach privately, and I am a trained music therapy assistant. I work with organisations such as the National Youth Orchestra and RCM Sparks and have been an ambassador for Blackpool Music Service since 2023.

I am so excited to be representing Sinfonia Smith Square in the 25/26 season.
