Biography

My mother, although not a professional, has always held classical music in a special place deep down her heart so it is only natural I was heavily influenced in my upbringing. When I first started the violin, I enjoyed being applauded at by my family and also enjoyed achieving the small goals that were set for me. It is only when I went to Purcell at the age of ten that I started to realise how fun it was to be learning alongside other musicians. My time at the school really opened my eyes to chamber music and that helped me make up my mind to dedicate my life in exploring this field.

In 2017, I started my studies at the Royal Academy of Music where I went through many different phases. There was a phase where I lost a lot of confidence because I was thinking too much about outcomes instead of pouring out pure passion for music. The thought of wasting so much prime time on this phase also frustrated me as it felt like I was stuck. However, it is during this time that I could solely focus on why I chose this path and why I wanted to carry on. I chose this path because I liked the honesty and transparency of music and how there was no shadow to hide in. The reason I decided to continue was because I became a firm believer that sincerity is all that matters, and it most definitely communicates.

Alongside my solo studies, I was very involved in outreach projects from introducing instruments at primary schools to performing for dementia patients as a part of Wigmore’s scheme. Outreach projects taught me that music really does make a difference, and it is a humbling experience on the performer’s end.

Recently, just before applying for this Fellowship, I spent six months in a very quiet village in Germany where I studied with a teacher who influenced me in a lot of ways. It was a time where I became all the more assertive of the positive impacts of ‘correct’ teaching. Being privileged enough to get the help of scholarships and be guided by great teachers along the way, it will definitely stay with me as an asset to give out and I believe that teaching will always be a strong dedication of mine.

Besides my music life, I love to bake and play badminton… but most of all, I’m a massive foodie!
